ABOUT MAIA
In 2022, Maia was invited to participate in the ABRSM Global High Scorer's Concert, as well as to receive a flute masterclass at the Royal Academy of Music, which she attended in June 2023 in London.
In July 2023, she took part in the Young Musician’s competition and was announced as the best senior flautist and also achieved an overall second place in the competition. In 2024, she was once again announced as the best senior flutist at the Young Musicians Gala evening in June.
In September 2023, Maia did her ABRSM grade 6 flute exam and achieved the highest mark ever achieved in South Africa for a music exam with 98%.
Last year, she attended master classes with flute professor, Dr. Salonen at Stellenbosch University and Dr. Stoltz at the University of Cape Town.
Maia had the privilege of attending the Scottish International Flute Summer School in Scotland in July 2023, under the direction of the world-famous flautist Ian Clarke, where she played his own composition "Maya" with him as a duet in the final concert of the week-long master classes.
She also had the opportunity to attend the Oxford Flute Summer School in Britain from 10 – 17 August 2024 which was a fantastic opportunity to expand her knowledge and passion for music even further. Maia also had the privilege of being able to perform at the Adams Hall in Oxford on the last night, which was definitely a highlight that will always stay with her.
Thereafter, she completed her grade 8 ABRSM flute exam and achieved 93%. In November 2024, she had her solo debut concert in Paarl, a significant milestone that allowed her to expand her repertoire and stage experience, and which was met with great success.
She is currently studying Data Science at Stellenbosch University while actively pursuing her passion for music. Maia is a member of the University of Stellenbosch Symphonic Wind Ensemble as well as the Western Cape Flute Choir. This year, she is preparing to take her Licentiate of the Royal Schools of Music (LRSM) performance exam through ABRSM as the next step in her musical development.
